The beach of La Isla has an ancient history, because in this ancient anchorage there was a natural port that during Roman domination was of some relevance, according to the archaeological remains located here, with signs of the old jetty.

There, in the rock, Castiellu or La Isla’l moral, the island that gives its name to the enclave, there was a castle from the medieval period, owned by Count Piniolo. Remains of wall with lime rigging and pieces of pre-Roman, Roman and altomedieval ceramics of the “comb type” were found, as the researcher Inaciu Heva Llavona points out in his study of this population: La Isla’l moral parish, number 104 of the toponymy collection of the academy of the Asturian llingua.

Long ago there was also an Asturian castro, fortified enclosure located on a promontory next to the current town, called precisely the Castru, from which stone was extracted from its ancient buildings and defenses to be used in various neighborhood constructions. all this reveals to be an ancient pre-Roman jetty that continued in use in Roman and medieval times, with various port and defensive structures from which numerous remains have arrived to our days.

In the Napoleonic wars the port was reused to bring supply by sea of the French to the troops of General Bonet as well as, when he changed hands, from the English to the Asturian guerrilla of Arguelles and Escandón. Later, in the Spanish civil war, trenches were excavated in front of the sea to protect the nearby salt airfield from an eventual landing of nationals.
